Saturday Photo Scavenger Hunt - Community

This week's theme is "community".
Join us in the photo hunt!

I couldn't resist posting this picture of a familiar site in my city - Knoxville, Tennessee. In 1982, this community came together and hosted the World's Fair. I was just 11 years old. (Somewhere there is a favorite picture of me at the fair - in braids!) The Sunsphere from the fair still stands.

Things have changed in the park, and in the city (it's much larger now!), but the monument is a reminder of a fun childhood year for me - when family came from all over to stay with us, the dinner's out at the German pavilion for brats, the first motion ride at the United States pavilion, the Japanese robots that wrote our names!

I'm thankful for the remaining reminder of those fond memories!

Makes us miss home (Libbyline is reading along this morning). Loved the Fort Kidd playground right near there, too!

I really like the black and white. And I like the contrast between the two towers. Very nice!

Enjoy the weekend

Great story with memories of an event in your community and the picture is an excellent reminder.

Thank you for visiting my blog. I've played SPH since "wet". I was the first Karen, but now there are three and it can be confusing.

I like the fact that everything is still in the picture and there's a STOP sign in it. And being in B/W it's like time standing still plus your narrative that goes with it! Very good!

That is so cool that you still have those things remaining to trigger those great childhood memories. Great shot you got. I love black and white photos. They always make such a statement.

That's neat! Having a WORLD Fair in ones community would DEFINATELY be something to remember!!! I can't imagine what the traffic was like though! (you weren't worried about that at 11!) :)

I can remember my parents taking my younger sister to World's Fair when it was in Knoxville. Hard to believe it's been 24 years ago...gosh I'm old!
