I am chosen?

I've been reading the book of Isaiah in my quiet times. So many verses talk about being chosen by God (especially in chapters 41-45). It is confusing to me. I know that we have our own will and can go our own way. But it also says, "many are invited, but few are chosen" (Matt 22:14).

Than of course there is this verse, "In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will, in order that we, who were the first to hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory." (Eph 1:11-12)

So how much of this life is our choice and how much is His choice? And is there a cut and dry answer to this question? Do we even know? What are your thoughts?

If only there were cut and dry answers... wouldn't that make it so much easier? And, I am not really clear on "many are invited, but few are chosen"...?

Hey Mama Duck,

Thankyou for your post-I'm glad that you found my blog:):)

I have wondered about that too-in college first, and then my Pastor talked about pre-destination recently in one of his sermons. I'm not sure which one it was, but his sermons are online at www.fbcpowell.org if you wanted to check him out.

I have a family member that is a non-christian that had trouble with this too. I think that my pastor says that the Holy Spirit draws people unto salvation, and that He opens their eyes to the truth to truly believe. He does know who will choose Him.

I'm not sure what he has to say beyond that other than the idea that we don't know who will decide to receive Christ (whose eyes will be opened to the truth-and faith to believe), so we preach the Gospel to every person. Then there's that verse about (Romans 1:20) that people are "without excuse". That there is a higher power is evident in creation itself. I can't figure it all out myself, but it's good to have a God that I cannot completely understand-that is what makes Him God. His ways are higher than our ways. (Isa. 55:9) Blessings to you,
